Down by the River

Down by the river where the green grass grows,

Pretty Polly Perkins bleaches her clothes.

She laughs and she sings, and she sings so sweet.

She calls, "Come over", across the street.

He kissed her, he kissed her, he took her to town,

He bought her a ring and a damascene gown.
