Homemade Humpty Dumpty Costume

Here's an idea for a simple and adorable homemade Humpty Dumpty Costume.

This could be used for any age child, you'll just need to change the size of the pillowcase you use for the size of the child.

You will probably find most of these items in your home already to make a great little homemade costume.

Here's what you'll need:

  • White pillow case - could be standard, or king, even european style depending on the size of your child
  • Tights - any color up to you
  • Hat - preferably a little dressy, like a top hat
  • Black marker
  • String or colored ribbon
  • Scissors
  • White tissue paper or batting
  • Dressy jacket

Open up two holes in the seam opposite the open end of the pillowcase.

These should be just large enough for your little one to fit their legs in.

Have them step in and pull the pillow case all the way up their legs.

Determine a place to cut arm holes out on either side.

Cut the arm holes on both sides.

For the neck, gather the open end to make a ruffled collar around their neck.

Create the ruffle by making small holes along a straight line all the way around the opening.

Then run the colored ribbon or string in and out the holes leaving enough on both ends to tie a bow once the child is in the pillow case.

Use the black marker to draw cracks on the pillow case to represent cracks in an egg.

Have your child wear tights.

Once your little one has put on the pillow case, before you tie the neck, put some tissue paper or batting inside the case to round out the egg.

You can add a little jacket if the weather is cool.

Humpty Dumpty is frequently shown wearing a dressy jacket and hat.

Your little Humpty is now ready to go!
